A laser cut plywood A3 ringbinder that makes use of a living hinge. A nice way to present your work. You will need: Laser cutter 3 or 4mm plywood (with dimensions slightly larger than 1018 x 310 mm) Two 3mm diameter by 7-12mm long machine screws and corresponding nuts Ringbinder mechanism - either get this online or cannibalise one from an existing plastic ringbinder. Instructions 1) Get wood Cutting dimensions are 1018 x 310 mm so you'll need a piece maybe 10mm larger in both directions. Although not necessary, it may be more durable if the grain of the surface of the plywood runs parallel to the short edge (310mm), as this is the direction of the fold crease. 2) Laser Make sure you're on the right laser settings for the plywood, and be sure to cut the living hinge pattern prior to cutting the outer edge - otherwise you might get some shifting and misalignment. Also, feel free to personalise the folder - etching the name of the project, a short description, a quote or a signature can make it extra special. 3) Prepare ringbinder mechanism. It's kinda tricky to track down a good source of these online where you don't have to buy 10,000 of them, but if I find one I'll post it. In the meantime I'd advise finding a sturdy mechanism from an existing plastic folder, and drilling out the rivets. 4) Mark drilling holes in folder. Align the ringbinder mechanism in the folder so its square with the sides (crucial!) and carefully mark the points to drill through. Drill straight through. Accuracy is key here. If you know the exact measurements of the holes in the mechanism beforehand, you could lasercut these holes instead as part of Step 2. 5) Attach ringbinder mechanism with screws and nuts. Alternatively, you could pop rivet. Looks slightly professional, but you can't undo it unless you drill it out. Aaaand you're done!
