I built this for fume extraction in my workshop, it requires only a handful of tools to build and I'm hoping to add improvements to this design! Bill of Materials (To build the extractor fan as pictured) Printed Parts: 2x Fume Extractor half 1x Extractor Switch Housing 1x Extractor Arm Mount 2x Tooth Lock Arm 1x Tooth Lock Arm Short 3x Finger Grip Bolt 3x Finger Grip Nut 1x Base Finger Grip Bolt 1x Base Top Component 1x Base Bottom Component 1x 3DP Clamp (v1.0 is shorter, so use v1.1 if you have a thicker desk) 1x Clamp Disk 1x Knob Standard Components: 8x M4 Fan Bolts (usually come with the fans) 2x M4 20mm Phillips/Crosshead Bolt 1x M5 12mm Tapered Head Bolt 1x M5 12mm Hex Socket Cap 6x M5 16mm Hex Socket Cap 4x M5 30mm Hex Socket Cap 5x M5 Nut 6x M5 Lock Nut (Or just double up M5 nuts) 6x M5 Washers (optional) 2x 120mm 12V DC Fans 1x 12V DC 1A Power Supply Plug and Cable 1x 2 pin ON/OFF Rocker Switch (20 x 15mm) 1x >2m 150mm Diameter Dryer Ducting Duct Tape Wire Solder Stripboard (optional) 2-3mm Neoprene Sheet (optional) Tools: Soldering Iron Old soldering Iron Tip (for welding PLA) Screwdriver Hex Screwdriver Rubber Mallet Drill & >6mm Drill Bit Mini Vise (optional, but makes fitting bolts to finger grips much easier) Assembly Guide: Extractor Sub-assembly: 1) Use the fan Screws to attach fans to the inside of the fume extractor halves. 2) With the old soldering iron tip fuse the fume extractor halves together. 3) Mark then drill 5mm holes for the arm mount on the underside and Switch housing on the top. (I will add these holes in an updated CAD model) 4) Use 4x M5 16mm bolts and 4x M5 Lock nuts to attach the Arm Mount 5) Solder the 2 Fans in parallel to the 12V Supply plug cable, with the 2 bar switch as an interrupt on +V side. NOTE: You'll want to have the switch mounted in the housing before you solder it in to the circuit. 6) With the remaining 2x M5 16mm bolts and Lock nuts, attach the switch housing with all the wires encased. 7) Fit the Dryer duct into the corresponding hole in the fume hood and fix in place with duct tape. Arm Sub-Assembly: 8) Using the rubber mallet hammer the 4x M5 30mm, 1x M5 12mm bolts & 3x M5 Nuts into their corresponding press fit holes in the Finger Grips and Clamp Knob. NOTE: The mini vise will come in very useful here to hold the bolt in the correct position. 9) Bolt the Base bottom component to the clamp by screwing the M5 Tapered bolt upward from the clamp side, then lock in position by screwing the M4 20mm bolts down into the clamp. 10) Press fit an M5 Nut into the clamp then screw in the Knob, finally attaching the clamping disk to this bolt. OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED: Add some neoprene sheet material to the clamp disk and clamping surface for added friction. 11) Slot an M5 Nut down the rectangular aperture in the top of the Base Bottom Component. 12) Now you can construct the arm and attach the extractor assembly to it using the Finger Grips to hold the arms together.
