First student attempt (by Trevor) at tracing a .jpg file and turning it into a 3D object. It looked good in Sketchup, though we felt like it didn't "Push/Pull" the way we wanted it to. This should have been our clue that something was amiss. When we printed it out it had holes in it that we hadn't planned! Instructions Do not print this based on what you see in the Sketchup File. It did not turn out that way because of geometry errors. We are not sure yet how to analyze and address those errors. We are on a learning journey!!! One problem is that we couldn't see the details clearly enough in the Replicator G software to recognize the looming errors. Secondly, we didn't know at the time how to change the View in Sketchup to XRay or Transparent, to trace .jpg files. On another project (Manchester logo) Xray seemed to work better because the lines would generally still infer to the face, whereas with transparent it didn't infer very well at all! Even with XRay it is still a fairly time-consuming process. If anyone has a better tracing idea please let us know!!!
