Video games allow individuals with disabilities to experience situations that may be difficult or limited in the real world, provide social networking opportunities to maintain mental and emotional health, and participate in one of the world’s largest pastimes. While video game controllers allow for very fine movement controls, holding a traditional controller and accurately pressing the trigger buttons can be challenging. The intent of this project is to allow for a gamer that only plays using one hand to easily use both thumbsticks. This is achievable by having the gamer play in a reclined position with the controller on their lap. One thumbstick is controlled with their middle finger on the back of the controller, and the other with their thumb. This is especially important for playing quick games like a first or third-person shooter. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controllers/xbox-black-wireless-controller A commercial one-handed controller can be found here https://www.evilcontrollers.com/x1-unlimited-add-ons-master-mod-custom-controller To print, the minimum print bed size must be 7.5" x 3".This build does require some technical soldering skill, and assembly directions can be found in the "Assembly Manual" .pdf (this .pdf is for the flush mounting adapter but assembly instructions are the same). This prototype was printed using a 1.75 mm PLA filament at a print temperature of 210°, a bed temperature of 60°, a layer height of 0.2mm, and an infill of 50%. The bottom flexible component was printed using NinjaTek semiflex (which is no longer sold) but any flexible filament will lead to a more comfortable fit on the torso for the gamer. This controller adapter was developed by Ben Greenspan as a part of his dissertation studying Biomechanics and Movement Science at the University of Delaware.
