Noni (Morinda citrifolia), a broadleaf evergreen tree/shrub, can reach heights of 1-5 meters. Native to Tahiti and Southeast Asia, it thrives in shady forests, open shores, and on rocky, sandy, or volcanic lava soils. Adaptable to warm, mild, or temperate climates, it is salt- and drought-tolerant. Also known as Nono (Tahitian), Mengkudu (Malayan), Great Morinda, Indian Mulberry, or Beach Mulberry, this tree is widespread throughout the Southern Pacific. Attracting weaver ants and fruit bats, it produces ripe fruits with a pungent odor, commonly called cheese fruits or vomit fruits. Due to its salt tolerance and drought resistance, Noni is often planted in coastal cities.
