Many times I went to retrieve my trusty Yaesu FT-60R from my backpack, only to find that the power/volume knob had been bumped and the battery was running down.

Removing the battery is not a great solution as it adds hassle every time you want to use or put away the radio.

The auto power off (APO) feature is useful, but is also not a perfect solution as it will still waste some power each time it turns on, it makes noise when turning off, and you still run the risk of the radio transmitting while in your bag.

So I designed this flexible cap to cover the volume (and tuning, and squelch) knobs. It slides over the antenna so your radio is ready to use at a moment's notice. Just slide the cap off and go. It looks kind of stupid but works well. This was one of the first problems that I specifically wanted to use 3D printing to solve, so I'm really happy to finally publish this, some 18 months after getting into printing.

I printed this with Overture 95A TPU, but I think most flexible filaments would work. Certainly the design could be improved to follow the contour of the radio more closely; this was just a quick sketch. The Fusion 360 project is included if you want to improve on it.
