Here is my 1.5" 'Ram' mount system. I use these on my own kayaks. It is much more rigid in comparison to my 1" version. It can also be used in conjuction with my Hobie H-Rail style mount, which has been designed for the M8 Bolt in the 'Lower Ball'. This 1.5" version is better suited for larger sounder applications that need that extra rigidity. But it can still be used for any sounder applications. I've designed the Garmin ball mount so as to be better reinforced with peace of mind. It uses a 6mm rod at 45mm in length, that is then glued for extra reinforcement. It will need to be tapped in after applying glue to the inside of the mount. I recommend an Epoxy resin type adhesive, like Selley's Araldite etc. I used a 6mm Aluminium Rod cut down to 45mm. The 'Wing Nut' has been design to enclose the M8 Nut during the print. You will need to pause the print at Layer 115 if using 0.2mm resolution (My choice). If you choose a different resolution, then obviously you will need to pause the print at the corresponding layer. Two 'Lower Ball' designs have been included. One 1.5" x M8 and one 1.5" x M6. NOTE! Only the M8 version will work with my Hobie H-Rail mount design. (It uses a M8 Lock-Nut to fix the ball to the mount). The M6 version ball may be better suited to 'Slide rail' type applications. Heat shrink (Carefully applied!) or rubberised paint may be use to get a better grip on the the balls. This was needed more so on the 1" version due to lesser surface area and hence lesser friction. Its not really needed here, but it does still add much more grip. Printed with 5 perimeters for super rigidity, with an infill of 70% 'Grid' style infill. Supports used under the arm for the hex bolt head only. Hardware requirements, all being Stainless Steel, are as follows; -Bolts- 1x 60mm M8 Hex Bolt (Main tightening bolt) 1x M8 or M6 Socket Head Bolt (Depends on Ball choice) for 'Lower Ball'. Length depending on your application. If using my Hobie H-Rail Mount a M8 x 60mm is used. 3x 16mm x M4 Bolts are used for the Garmin ball mount. -Nuts- 1x M8 Nut (For Wing Nut) 3x M4 Lock-Nuts (For Garmin ball mount) -Other- 1x 6mm x 45mm Rod piece (To reinforce the Garmin ball mount) Epoxy adhesive for reinforcement rod application. -Optional- 40mm Heat Shrink or Rubberised paint for balls If you like this design and get some use out of it, please give me a heart!
