Yorick

Yorick

I first met Yorick when I was acting in a community theater production of Hamlet. We were looking for an actor to play the part of Yorick, the dead court jester who is exhumed by a grave digger and who inspires childhood memories in the young prince. Yorick was working a gig in a local public school teaching students about anatomy. His boss (the science teacher) was kind enough to give Yorick a leave of absence to allow him to perform in the Stagenorth Groundling's production of Hamlet. After his defining moment on stage, Yorick stayed on at the theater for many other productions. Mostly, he served as an inspiration for young and aspiring actors. Yorick’s illustrious theater career has now ended. In his retirement, Yorick is interested in traveling. He is quite insistent about documenting his travels with photos (we had to pry the selfie stick away from him). If you could print him out and take a photo of him in your hometown or a local scenic site and post it on this page, that would be incredible and very much appreciated by Yorick. “Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar? (Hamlet, V.i)”
