Flunitrazepam, also known as Rohypnol, is a benzodiazepine used for hypnotic sleep induction, sedation, antiepileptic, anti-anxiety, and muscle relaxation. It's commonly prescribed for short-term use in chronic insomnia patients or when other sleep aids aren't effective. Despite limited reported cases, Flunitrazepam is well-known as a date rape drug. It belongs to the nitro-benzodiazepine class and is the N-methyl sulfide derivative of Nitrazepam. Other nitrobenzodiazepines include Nitrazepam (the original compound), Nimetazepam (methylamine derivative), and Clonazepam (2'-sulfide derivative).
